At the beginning of 2022, when planning our webinar series for the year ahead, we laughed off the idea of a metaverse session, on the notion that metaverse experiences are ill-defined and the underlying technologies too nascent. Now, in October 2023, things are different. Is the metaverse finding its feet, and which technologies are enabling the meta land grab – in the battle from encoding, to silicon, and the all-important hardware? One thing is certain, for the conceptual metaverse to succeed, experiences must either break free from the shackles of VR headsets, or headsets themselves must evolve.
