V-Nova: driving disruptive change in video compression technology

What would it mean to online video if the amount of bandwidth required to distribute it were a fifth of the current needs? V-Nova says it has the technology to make this happen, and do it within the context of today’s hardware ecosystem.

Though V-Nova has been around for 5 years, it is only just exiting stealth mode today. During that long quiet period the company has been perfecting its novel approach to video encoding. Guido Meardi, CEO of V-Nova, told me that its approach to compression is inspired by principles underlying human vision. This means Perseus, the company’s core technology solution, seeks to increase and leverage correlation in the video, whereas current techniques work to reduce redundancy.
